HOBY South Florida Corporate Board
The HOBY South Florida Corporate Board – South Florida Leadership Seminar, Inc. – is responsible for overseeing the operation of all HOBY programs and events in the South Florida region. This dedicated team of volunteers works year-round to ensure that every aspect of the South Florida seminar and related events are envisioned, designed, and executed at the highest level of professionalism and in strict accordance with the policies of HOBY International.
Stephanie Eakins, President
Stephanie Eakins works for Florida Power and Light as a Financial Analyst. She is a 1988 Connecticut HOBY alum and has volunteered in various positions with the Connecticut, Virginia, and South Florida seminars since 2001, including South Florida Leadership Seminar Chair in 2007 and 2008. Eakins currently serves as a HOBY Regional Program Director.
Stephanie Jackson Altieri, Immediate Past President
Stephanie Jackson Altieri is a long time HOBY volunteer and HOBY alumnus of the South Florida seminar. She has served in numerous roles at the regional and international levels. She spent her early years as a junior staff member and facilitator in South Florida, after which she led the Junior Staff Team and Operations in the early 2000s. She served as South Florida Chairperson for 3 years, and as a World Leadership Congress facilitator and section leader from 2002 – 2009. Since 2010, her serve to HOBY has focused on the international level, serving as World Leadership Congress Vice-Chair of Marketing (2011) and Chairperson, “HOBY Mama” (2012) and represented HOBY International at HOBY Korea in 2012. From 2010 – 2014, Stephanie served as president of the South Florida board.
Stephanie was elected to the HOBY International Board of Trustees in 2013 and has chaired the Field and Operations Programming committee since that time. In 2015, she was President-elect for the Board.
Stephanie is currently an Assistant Professor of Communication Studies at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida where she has taught and mentored students since 2003. She received her Master of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2003 and her Bachelor of Arts from Florida Southern University in 2000. In her professional life, her research focuses on stakeholder relationships, oral communication techniques and organizational culture.
Faequa Khan is a 2003 HOBY alum, and has attended the World Leadership Congress as both an ambassador and facilitator. She has served the South Florida seminar as the Team Alumni Coach and Director of Facilitators. She is a graduate of the University of Florida Levin College of Law.
John McDonough is a Technical Account Manager at RSA, The Security Division of EMC. John has been involved with HOBY South Florida since 2001. John has served as a facilitator, director, and board VP Finance.
Angela McCall, 2017 Leadership Seminar Chair
Angela McCall is a recent graduate of the University of Florida, College of Medicine. As a 2006 HOBY alumna, Angela has volunteered in a variety of capacities with South Florida HOBY since then.
Lon Phillips is a Permanent Deacon for the diocese of Palm Beach and serves as the Director of Parish Operations at Ascension Catholic Church in Boca Raton. Deacon Lon has been involved with the South Florida seminar since 1995, and has served HOBY as a facilitator, director, and now, Corporate Board member.
Dris Stephen has been involved with HOBY since 2007, and has volunteered in various capacities with the South Florida and Mid-Florida seminars, as well as the World Leadership Congress.
Hal Tozzer has dedicated a majority of his volunteer life working with high school students, primarily with HOBY. He first volunteered with HOBY South Florida as a facilitator in 1987 and continued volunteering locally for 16 years. He also served as the first Miami-Dade Alumni Advisor, as well as the Finance / Fundraising Director for three years, Team Alumni Coach for two years, and as the Leadership Seminar Chairperson in 1999 and 2000. On a state-wide level, he was the Corporate Board President for three years in the late 1990’s when there was one Corporate Board for the entire state. He also served on a national level for three years on the HOBY International Field Operations & Programming and Committee as well as the annual Training Institute committees. He was an also an active participant in HOBY’s World Leadership Congress (WLC) from 1996-2002. In 2002, he served as the chairperson, or “WLC Dad.”
In addition to volunteering with HOBY, Hal has volunteered in numerous roles with the middle school and high school youth at Christ the King (CTK) Lutheran Church in Miami, as well as the CTK Foundation Board. Professionally, he served on the volunteer Board of Directors for the Miami Herald Credit Union and was the recipient of the Alvah Chapman Community Service Award in 1999. Upon moving to Ft. Lauderdale in 2005, he became president of the River Oaks Civic Association and served as a deacon at Rio Vista Community Church. He also served on the Development Council for 4KIDS of South Florida.
Hal received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Ohio Northern University. He spent 14 years at Florida Power & Light in Miami and Juno Beach, FL. Subsequently, he has worked for Harris Computer Systems, Knight Ridder and DHL primarily in Supply Chain management roles. Currently, he is working as a consultant for a division of RR Donnelley in Ft. Lauderdale.
